I'M NOT A SHOULDER TO CRY ON

Dear Diary,
Emmalee’s mom was stuck at work and her dad had a hold-up and wouldn’t get back from his business trip until later in the afternoon, so we decided to hang out at Here & There after school today and do homework.
We wandered in the front door and found a table for two tucked in a corner. The place was absolutely jammed with high schoolers trying to get after-school coffee - there was barely standing room. The smell of coffee beans filled the air. I thought about getting up to get a peanut butter cookie I saw in the display case, but the line was too long.
Emmalee and I slung our backpacks down on the floor. She opened up her English binder, and I took out my geometry textbook.
We studied for a while. Well, she studied. I half studied, half searched in vain for Christopher, wondering if he came here after school. I suddenly became very aware of the fact that my combat boots almost had holes worn in the sides and my shirt had a mustard stain on the hem.
Suddenly, there he was! I couldn’t believe my luck, and I profusely thanked the Powers that Be. He was standing in line with Mark, giving his friend a playful shove. I tried not to stare, but goddamn that boy. And I don’t think I’d ever seen him in that grey hoodie before, and goddamn he looks cute in that grey hoodie. But then he turned his head to look at the menu above my head, and I quickly turned back to my studying.
Emmalee quirked a knowing eyebrow and smile at me.
In other news, I got two tests back today. One was a French test - C+. But the other was a geometry test - A-! Woot woot! (I bet Kylie Newman didn’t get an A.)

Love,
Waverly
